Southampton ‘Hold Fire’ On Sacking Club Manager

According to insiders who spoke to Football Insider, Southampton is content to stick with underperforming manager Russell Martin and resist the urge to sack him.

After losing 2-0 on the road against Wolves on Saturday, November 9, the Saints have only collected four of a potential 33 points so far this season.

Martin has been under increasing pressure lately, but last week’s victory over Everton at home gave the former defender a breather.

However, Wolves overtook the south coast team to go up to 19th place in the standings at Molineux as they went back to typing and failed to generate any shots on goal.

As of Monday morning, Southampton executives are ready to keep Martin at St. Mary’s Stadium, but if the Scot’s terrible play persists, they will have no option but to replace him.

In the off-season, the 38-year-old was given a new three-year contract after guiding the team to the playoff final.

The Saints have the lowest record of any Premier League team this season, having only managed seven goals in 11 top-flight games.

Southampton’s next five league games currently include matches against Tottenham, Brighton, Chelsea, Aston Villa, and Liverpool.
