Southampton have confirmed that they have parted company with Nathan Jones after just three months in charge.
The 49-year-old was appointed to succeed Ralph Hasenhuttl on November 10, and he signed a three-and-a-half-year contract until the summer of 2026.
However, Jones has struggled during his time in charge at St. Mary’s, losing nine of his 14 games in all competitions, and has been unable to turn around the club’s fortunes.
Eight of those defeats have come in nine Premier League games, including Saturday’s 2-1 home defeat to 10-man Wolverhampton Wanderers – a game in which the Saints led going into the final 20 minutes.
Jones’ only Premier League victory as Southampton manager was a 2-1 victory away at Everton on January 14, while he also won the FA Cup and EFL Cup, including a 2-0 quarter-final victory over Manchester City in the latter competition.
Southampton spent nearly £60m on five new signings in the January transfer window, including the club-record signing of winger Kamaldeen Sulemana on deadline day.
Jones lost the St. Mary’s faithful’s support after the league loss to Wolves, and the Welshman now finds Southampton rooted to the bottom of the Premier League standings, four points from relegation.

A brief statement on the club’s official website also confirms the departure of first-team coaches Chris Cohen and Alan Sheehan.
First-team head coach Ruben Selles has been appointed as interim manager while Southampton searches for a replacement.
Southampton, who have won only four of their 22 Premier League games this season, will play Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
Former Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard, former Leeds United head coach Jesse Marsch, and former Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino are among the early bookmakers’ favourites to replace Jones.
