The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) are looking into racist or xenophobic chants that were reportedly made by Sevilla fans towards Barcelona striker Luis Suarez.
Barcelona ran out 2-1 winners when the two sides met at the Sanchez Pizjuan at the start of November, as Suarez made himself the match winner in the second half. The RFEF believes that 2,000 Sevilla fans aimed a chant of “Uruguayan son of a b****” towards Suarez during the encounter.
The RFEF’s report on the game consists of four points, and it is the final one which has brewed controversy.
A section of the report reads, as reported by The Sun: “In the 87th minute, after a Luis Suarez foul which the referee deemed not worthy of a yellow card, around 2,000 local fans sang in union ‘Uruguayan son of a b****’ for around ten seconds. This was reference to Luis Suarez’s Uruguayan nationality.”
Sevilla dominated the game but it was Barcelona who took the spoils, fuelling anger among a section of home fans.
The Uruguayan is no stranger to controversy and is used to being accused of wrongdoing, but it seems as though he has been on the receiving end this time.
29-year-old Suarez has scored the most goals for his club so far this season (8) and has picked up the most cards (5 yellows).
