Spanish Football Has A Problem With Racism, Carlo Ancelotti Says

Carlo Ancelotti believes that there is a racism problem in Spanish football due to the current hatred and abuses directed towards Vinicius Junior.

The racist taunts hurled at the Real Madrid forward by Mallorca supporters over the weekend was the second occasion in as many seasons that he has experienced it at the Son Moix.

In recent months, Vinicius Jr. has also come under attack from other fan bases, particularly those of Atletico Madrid and Real Valladolid, two “city rival” teams.

“It seems that the problem is Vinicius, and it is not like that. It is a problem of Spanish football and it must be solved,” Ancelotti told a news conference in Rabat on Tuesday, on the eve of Real Madrid’s Club World Cup semi-final against Egypt’s Al Ahly.

“The question I ask is this: Vinicius? Vinicius’ teammates? Team-mates have to defend themselves against what?” Ancelotti said on Tuesday.

“It is a problem of Spanish football and I am part of Spanish football and it is a problem that we have to solve.

“Vinicius is the victim of something I don’t understand.”

Vinicius has been subjected to racial abuse by fans on at least three other occasions and is the most fouled player in Europe’s top seven leagues by a big margin.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid midfielder, Federico Valverde, also added: “On the issue of racism, I think that is people that are bitter with their own lives who go in the stands and try to pay for their frustrations with a 22-year-old kid.

“You have to have respect for other people. When a player is fouled a lot it’s part of football, but we as teammates have to defend him,” he said.
