After Xabi Alonso decided to stay at Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen for the 2024–2025 season, Sporting Lisbon manager Ruben Amorim emerged as the front-runner to be named Liverpool’s next manager.
Liverpool could get Amorim for a pittance of just £12.8 million, according to The Telegraph.
At the conclusion of the season, he may use his release clause; however, it will decline once again in 2025, suggesting that further discussions may be necessary.

Sporting’s stunning comeback victory over Estrela Amadora on Friday night propelled them above Benfica to the top of the Primeira Liga standings.
Prior to joining Sporting, Amorim, whose contract at the Jose Alvalade Stadium runs until 2026, had little coaching experience.
Amorim had only been the manager of Braga for 13 games when Sporting signed him in March 2020 for a contract worth approximately €10 million. At that point, only Brendan Rodgers and Andre Villas-Boas had commanding salaries for managerial transfers. In a recent interview, Amorim declined to address the rumors that connected him to the Liverpool position, saying that his main goal is still winning the Primeira Liga with Sporting. To put it another way, he’s very proud to be the coach of Sporting.
“We’re focused on winning titles. You’ll see in the end. I have a contract and I’m very happy here.
“That’s the most important thing, more than contracts, I’m very happy here. The focus is on beating Benfica in the Portuguese Cup.”
