Spurs star Kane in doubt for Man United clash – Pochettino

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino has refused to confirm if Harry Kane is fit and available to face Manchester United in a key Premier League game.

The 24-year-old striker was rested for the midweek Carabao Cup tie against West Ham, after leading Spurs to a 4-1 rout of Liverpool in the last round of Premier League games.

However, after a shock 3-2 defeat to the Hammers, Pochettino was evasive when asked if Kane would be restored to the starting line-up at Old Trafford.

The Argentine told beINSPORTS: “We’ll see, we’ll see. We need to assess the team because we were forced to rotate for different reasons and we’ll see what happens in the next few days.”

Last weekend Kane scored twice to condemn Jürgen Klopp’s side to defeat in a one-sided fixture at Wembley. The England striker also played the full 90 minutes in a demanding Champions League tie at Real Madrid. His omission from the Carabao Cup squad was put down to Pochettino rotating the squad and keeping his star player fresh for more important games.

But his comments, and the fact Kane appeared to suffer a hamstring injury against the Reds, will unsettle Spurs fans… at least until they see him back out on the field this weekend.

Kane has been in sensational form this season, scoring 13 times in 12 games and leading Spurs to third in the league table and joint-top of their Champions League group.

If the England striker is unavailable for the trip to Manchester, Pochettino will be hard-pressed to replace him, with Fernando Llorente the obvious choice.

The 32-year-old Spaniard was a surprise summer signing by Spurs, and has yet to start a league game for the club; he did start the game at Real Madrid though, and the midweek defeat to West Ham as well.
