Real Madrid have entered the race to sign Harry Kane this summer with a £100m bid for the Tottenham Hotspur striker.
Kane, who has 30 Premier League goals this season, has just over a year left on his contract, putting Spurs at risk of losing their top player for free in 2024.
Chairman Daniel Levy is said to be willing to accept the risk if it means keeping the 29-year-old from joining with an English rival for the 2023-24 season.
That was thought to be Kane’s most likely route to a move overseas, with the England international showing no interest in joining Bayern Munich or Paris Saint-Germain.
However, the situation has changed, with Karim Benzema unexpectedly rejecting the option of extending his stay at Real in order to join a Saudi Arabian club.
Los Blancos are suddenly without a frontline striker and two high-profile playmakers in Marco Asensio and Eden Hazard, who are both leaving on free transfers.
However, from Real’s standpoint, room on the wage bill has been freed up, allowing them to explore proven options rather than the expected loan arrival of Joselu from Espanyol.
According to the Daily Mail, Real Madrid are ready to tell their Tottenham counterparts that they want to negotiate a deal for Kane.
However, Spurs plan to reply with a £100m demand if they receive formal contact from the La Liga heavyweights.

Real is reportedly hopeful that there is room to cut the asking price, with an expectation that all parties can handle their different issues amicably.
Much will depend on Kane’s willingness to leave the Premier League; the forward is known to be interested in smashing Alan Shearer’s all-time top goalscorer record at some point during his career.
