Arsenal set a record yesterday with their 2-0 victory over West Bromwich Albion by becoming the second team to record their 500th Premier League win.
Arsenal join Manchester United, who have 584 wins, in the 500 club, and it’s a demonstration of their longevity as one of the best sides in the division.
The game itself was fairly comfortable, with Arsenal barely having to break sweat to see off West Brom in the end. Alexis Sanchez scored both goals for the Gunners, with the first a fine finish into the bottom corner and the second a clever free-kick.
The result moves the north Londoners back up to third in the table ahead of Manchester City, who they still have to play at the Etihad.
The title is already gone for Arsenal, but they will be keen to finish in the top three and therefore avoid having to go through the play-offs next season in the Champions League.
The task for Arsene Wenger now is to add players of similar quality to Sanchez to ensure that Arsenal can actually challenge for an entire season, rather than for periods.
Next up for the Gunners in the league is a trip to relegation-threatened Sunderland on Sunday, a game that won’t be easy.
