Former Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard has declared his intention to sign Lionel Messi for Al-Ettifaq. He aims to make the largest move in Saudi football history.

Ahead of the next Saudi Pro League season, Gerrard is keen to add a high-profile player to his squad. He has previously been connected to former Rangers stars James Tavernier and Connor Goldson.
“Having Messi at Al Ettifaq is a dream come true for me,” Gerrard stated in an interview with MBC Masr 2. He is a fantastic talent and would be very beneficial to the team.
“I know it’s difficult for him to move to Saudi Arabia, but there’s nothing wrong with dreaming.”
After winning the Scottish Premiership in 2020–21, Gerrard joined Villa from Rangers. Nevertheless, he was removed of his duties in October 2022. After getting off to a great start, winning eight of his first 16 Premier League games in charge, he lost four of his last 22 games at Villa.
Gerrard took over as manager of Al-Ettifaq, a Saudi Pro League team, on July 3, 2023.
