Steven Gerrard Receives The Al Ettifaq Award Despite Not Having Won A Game Since October

As head coach of Al Ettifaq, Steven Gerrard has agreed to a two-year contract extension, according to talkSPORT.

According to Talk Sport, The former captain of Liverpool will stay with the Saudi Pro League team until 2027 as part of the agreement; he took over in July.

Following a bright beginning, Gerrard’s team has experienced a run of bad luck and hasn’t won since October.

Jordan Henderson’s contract was recently terminated to enable a permanent transfer to Ajax, meaning he lost his best player.

However, club executives are committed to Gerrard’s success and will give the 43-year-old money to bolster his team.

As far as talkSPORT is aware, Henderson’s departure had no direct bearing on the contract extension, which was prearranged. But the Saudi Pro League team was able to raise £8 million thanks to the departure of the England midfielder, which will help pay for Gerrard’s new contract.

With an annual salary of £15.2 million, Gerrard is the fourth-highest paid manager in the world, according to The Sun.

The AL Ettifaq manager earns less than only Diego Simeone (£30 million), Pep Guardiola (£20 million), and Jurgen Klopp (£16 million).

After Aston Villa fired Gerrard in October 2022, after 11 months in charge, the team managed just 13 victories out of 40 games, Gerrard moved to the Middle East.

Before arriving at Villa Park, the former England midfielder led Rangers to the Scottish Premiership championship in 2020–21.

The Saudi Pro League swiftly opened its doors to a wide range of stars, and Gerrard accepted an approach from Al Ettifaq after spending nearly a year away from football.

Currently ranked eighth, Al Ettifaq is not one of the four teams owned by the nation’s Public Investment Fund

League leaders Al Hilal, Al Ahli, Al Ittihad, and Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al Nassr are 75% owned by PIF.
