Strasbourg could be about to cash in on Ibrahima Sissoko as reports claim they are close to agreeing a deal with Newcastle United. The 21-year-old has been a rock in the heart of the Strasbourg defence this season and has caught the eye with his performances in both Ligue 1 and the Europa League.
Sissoko has yet to find the back of the net, but it’s his robust performances in the middle of the park that make him an attractive proposition and Newcastle are keen to get him on board.
The English Premier League side are looking to bolster their ranks in the winter window in an attempt to pull away from relegation danger, and Sissoko is a target.
They are lacking adequate cover in a crucial area of the pitch and believe that Sissoko would be able to do a job should anything happen to Sean and Matt Longstaff.
It is claimed that talks have been taking place between the two clubs for some time and a fee of £13million has now been agreed.
The youngster will now be allowed to discuss personal terms with the Magpies and if there are no issues on that front, he will make the switch in January.
Deciding to cash in on Sissoko midway through the season would be a huge gamble by Strasbourg, considering they are in a perilous position themselves.
They sit just one point above the relegation zone and look set for a relegation battle of their own and Sissoko could be needed.
