Former Newcastle United forward Nile Ranger scored his first league goal in 735 days after netting for Southend United against Bury on Saturday.
As reported by The Sun, it was his first goal in the league since November 2014, when he scored for Blackpool against Leeds United in the Championship.
Ranger scored a goal in either half of Southend’s 4-1 win over Bury, before being substituted in the 81st minute.
However the 25-year-old has made more headlines for his off-field antics than what he’s achieved on it since his debut in 2009, which resulted in his release by Newcastle in March of 2013.
However he’s been given another chance by Southend, and seems to have turned a corner since giving up alcohol and tattoos, as he looks to revive a once promising career that saw him star in wins over Arsenal and Chelsea during his breakout season.
Southend sit 12th after 17 matches in League One, seven points above the relegation zone.
