Christian Benteke will leave Liverpool during the summer transfer window, according to his teammate Daniel Sturridge‘s uncle, Dean.
The Belgian striker has struggled to adapt to the task of playing for one of Europe’s top clubs since arriving from Aston Villa in a big money transfer last summer.
Since the Reds’ managerial change in October when Jurgen Klopp arrived Benteke has often found himself sitting on the sidelines and Dean Sturridge told Sky Sports that a fresh start will happen for the 25-year-old in the summer.
“He will get his move next season,” Sturridge said.
“He doesn’t seem to fit into what the manager wants from his strikers.”
Benteke, who earns £140,000 a week according to the Mirror, began his Liverpool career fairly well under former manager Brendan Rodgers – the person who brought him to Anfield – as he netted twice in his first five games including a stunning effort during the 3-1 defeat against Manchester United.
With Daniel Sturridge suffering numerous injuries early on in the campaign, it gave the ex-Villa forward the chance to cement his status as the main centre-forward.
However, his lack of mobility appears to have frustrated Klopp and he’s often opted for Divock Origi to lead the line or even Roberto Firmino as a false striker when Sturridge has been absent.
A last-minute equaliser against Chelsea last week looks set to be Benteke’s final goal for the club unless he makes an impact in the Europa League final against Sevilla.
