Barcelona star Luis Suarez may have been off the goal trail recently, but he scored four against Deportivo La Coruna on Wednesday evening to set a fine club record.
The 28-year-old and his teammates have been struggling in recent games, after Luis Enrique’s side suffered three consecutive La Liga defeats for the first time since 2003.
Suarez, Lionel Messi and Neymar have been among those to be heavily criticised, but two of those three silenced their doubters at the Riazor tonight.
Suarez struck four times, but it was the third goal which really created history after the Uruguay international overtook Ronaldo’s record in a Barcelona shirt of 47 goals in the 1996/97 season.
It marks what’s been a fascinating two seasons or so for Suarez since moving from Liverpool to Barcelona, with the former Ajax man really taking to La Liga like a duck to water.
The classy forward may have been quiet recently, but he showed how much quality he has in his locker with a fine performance at the Riazor.
Suarez’s second of the night against Deportivo was particularly impressive, after a fine Messi pass found him inside the area as Enrique’s side ran away with the three points early on.
