Marcus Rashford completed more take-ons than any other England player in the humiliating 2-1 defeat to Iceland, despite the fact that he only entered the field as a substitute in the 86th minute.
The Manchester United ace provided an instant attacking threat following his introduction as he frequently burst down the left flank and was successful with three of his four attempted take-ons.
On a bleak night for England, which saw manager Roy Hodgson resign after the game, Rashford was perhaps the only positive as he demonstrated once again that he has a bright future on the international stage.
England lacked cohesion throughout the game, and Rashford’s introduction was unfortunately far too late, with Hodgson taking too long to bring on the prospect.
Rashford has impressed in all three of his senior appearances for England, from his goalscoring debut in the friendly against Australia and his encouraging cameo against Wales in the group stages at Euro 2016.
Looking forwards there isn’t much to be excited about for England’s supporters right now, but at least in Rashford the nation has a player with vast potential who could go on to lead the line for years to come.
Captain Wayne Rooney was the man withdrawn for Rashford on Monday, and, based on that game’s evidence, perhaps the youngster will eventually inherit his club’s teammate’s mantle as England’s star man.
