Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has insisted that on-loan striker Tammy Abraham has immense potential, and that the striker is part of the future for the club.
Abraham, 19, has scored 11 goals in just 17 appearances during his temporary club Bristol City this season and could have been of assistance to Conte, for Chelsea’s EFL Cup trip to West Ham United, if he was playing under the Italian this campaign.
Instead, Abraham is likely to lead the line for City when they meet Hull City at Ashton Gate on Tuesday evening.
Conte told reporters: “Abraham is another young player who is the future for Chelsea, for sure. He’s very young. I saw him only one week during the pre- season in America. Then we decided to send him to play every game and get experience, then come back for us.
Conte also name-dropped Chelsea graduates currently with the club, Nathaniel Chalobah, who got an assist against Leicester City, full-back Ola Aina, striker Dominic Solanke, as well as Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
He added: “He has great potential in the technical and physical aspects. I think the academy is working very well. Also in my squad we have Nathaniel Chalobah, Ola Aina, Dominic Solanke, Ruben Loftus-Cheek. You can see the future and it’s good.”
The former manager of the Italian national team has already shown that he is willing to hand opportunities to young and aspiring players since taking charge. Most notably, Chalobah has made three successive substitute appearances in the league.
Abraham has not only impressed at club level this season as he produced a great display on his England U21 debut in September, scoring twice. He was also named EFL Young Player of the Month earlier on Tuesday.
