Tardy Kean issues apology after Everton axing

Moise Kean has apologised to boss Marco Silva and his Everton team-mates after being dropped for the win at Southampton for turning up late to a meeting. The 19-year-old travelled down to the south coast but was missing from the matchday squad at St Mary’s on Saturday that picked up an important 2-1 victory.
When asked why the former Juventus youngster had missed out on selection, Silva claimed it had been “just a decision”, indicating it was a tactical call.
However, it has since emerged the Italian was overlooked for a breach of club discipline, with several reports indicating it was a result of him turning up late for a team meeting ahead of the weekend’s clash.
It is understood it was the second incident of Kean failing to arrive on time for a meeting and that Silva decided he needed to take action.
It is not the first time poor time keeping has cost Kean, who was axed from the Italy squad for September’s Euro 2020 qualifiers as a result of having turned up late to a team meeting for the Italian Under-21 side during the European Championship in the summer.
Kean has apologised for his latest actions and Everton are believed to consider the matter closed.
It has been a far from smooth transition to life on Merseyside since his £27million arrival from Juventus during the summer, with the teenager struggling to make an impact, while his last appearance for Everton came in the 2-0 win over West Ham on October 19.
Kean has only started two Premier League games, with a further two starts coming in the Carabao Cup, and is yet to find the back of the net for his new club.
Having been signed in the hope of solving Everton’s conundrum up front, Silva is still searching for answers and has tried Richarlison, Cenk Tosun and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, alongside Kean, in the lone striking role at times this season.
The Toffees have managed just 13 goals in their first 12 Premier League matches, with only five teams registering fewer.
