Erik ten Hag has emerged as a potential replacement for Xabi Alonso, assuming he confirms his planned move from Bayer Leverkusen.
Talks have yet to begin because Alonso has yet to declare his plans, with Real Madrid waiting in the wings for the Spaniard.
However, former Manchester United manager Ten Hag is among the prospective options whom Leverkusen would like to chat with if Alonso leaves.
Ten Hag has a high reputation in Germany from his stint at Bayern Munich, and he was heavily connected to the Borussia Dortmund coaching position in January. According To Daily Mail.
However, the 55-year-old, who was fired by Manchester United in October and is still receiving compensation from the club, has been eager to rest and recharge before returning to management.
Leverkusen are second in the Bundesliga, eight points behind Bayern Munich. However, Leverkusen leader Alonso is favored to follow Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid.

Ancelotti had been lined up to become Brazil’s national team coach, but it is now in doubt because Madrid has not given permission yet.
Though the 65-year-old Italian coach is anticipated to leave the Bernabeu, Madrid has yet to announce who will be in charge of the upcoming World Club Championship.
Their refusal to give Ancelotti the go light has put his probable appointment as Brazil manager in risk.
