Ten Hag Could Sell Player To Hand Hojlund Preferred Shirt Number

As soon as Rasmus Hojlund’s £72 million move from Atalanta to Manchester United is complete, he will be given his official shirt number.

The Dane promptly completed the first part of his medical exercise at United’s Carrington training facility after arriving in England on Tuesday.

Red Devils’ manager, Erik ten Hag appealed with his bosses to allow him to recruit a striker during the summer transfer window. And Hojlund, 20, is the answer to his prayers.

Hojlund’s aspirations of donning a legendary shirt number at Old Trafford, though, appear to be dashed. The Denmark international may have to choose a less well-known number. Because Mason Mount, who joined Manchester United from Chelsea this summer, will wear the historic No. 7. Anthony Martial will continue to wear No. 9, and Marcus Rashford will wear No. 10.

At Atalanta, the Danish forward donned the No. 17 shirt. That jersey number is already occupied by Fred.

The Brazilian midfielder, who was absent from the Red Devils’ preseason tour of the United States due to what the club described as a personal matter, may soon change that.

Fred’s absence coincided with rumors of a transfer to Galatasaray. Although the Turkish club would have to agree to United’s purported £20 million asking price.

Fulham have also had interest. But the Premier League club is unwilling to fork up that much money for a 30-year-old player who has 10 months left on his contract.

According to Mirror Football, prior to the Red Devils’ home opener against the Wolves on August 14, Ten Hag might give Holjund the No.17 by moving Fred out.

Hojlund’s available shirt numbers: 1, 4, 13, 15, 30, 31, 32, 35, 36, 38, 40, 41, 44, 45, 48, 50.
