Ten Hag Returns To Manage Former Club Amid Man United Struggles

Erik ten Hag is reportedly set to manage a game outside of Manchester United.

According to The Mirror, during the international break, the struggling United boss is currently in Holland, having accepted the responsibility of leading a group of former Utracht players in a testimonial match for the club’s seasoned defender Mark van der Maarel on Sunday.

Van der Maarel’s 17-year tenure with the Eredivisie club will be celebrated with a matchup against the current Utrecht squad. In theory, Utrecht will be unbeatable.

When 37-year-old Van der Maarel requested Ten Hag to do him a favor, the man who answered— was at Utrecht as a manager and player—was pleased to comply after obtaining approval from United.

Utrecht even play in red and white to further elicit a sense of familiarity for the Dutchman.

With increasing pressure on him at Old Trafford, Ten Hag has taken a much-needed getaway back to his own country.

Despite once again heavily supporting their manager in the transfer market, United have lost their previous two games and suffered a crushing 3-0 defeat at home to Liverpool on Sunday.

While Nations League qualifying rounds are underway, Ten Hag has taken time off to visit his daughters Kelly and Indy, as well as his son Nigel.

Nearly 24,000 tickets are expected to be sold out at Stadion Galgenwaard for Utrecht, and their former coach is sure to receive a warm ovation.
