Ter Stegen Makes Surprise Return To Training After Long-Term Injury

Marc-Andre ter Stegen has reportedly made a surprise return from injury as he was spotted in Barcelona team training on Monday.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the Germany international was the big surprise in the Blaugrana’s training session on Monday.

On September 22, 2024, the Barcelona captain had to have surgery after suffering a complete rupture of the patellar tendon in his right knee.

It was feared that Ter Stegen might not play again this season, but the German goalkeeper has been working exceptionally hard on his comeback making faster progress than anticipated.

The former Borussia Monchengladbach shot-stopper has now participated in team training under Hansi Flick, which will greatly benefit the Catalan giants as the season nears its conclusion.

The goalie made an unexpected early return today, despite indications earlier in the day that he would return to group training following the UEFA Champions League match against Borussia Dortmund.

Ter Stegen’s return to training is a step in the right direction and will be a great lift for the entire team. Even though it may still be some time before he can return to on-field action with the first team.

Barcelona’s stand-in goalkeeper, Wojciech Szczesny has performed admirably from the beginning of the year, having not suffered a defeat in all 18 of his games for the club.

It will be interesting to see the decision of manager Hansi Flick when Ter-Stegen is ready for a competitive action.
