Ter Stegen unsure of Barcelona future amid Liverpool links

Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre Ter Stegen is unsure of his future at the club with Claudio Bravo the current first-choice for La Liga games and reports linking the German away.

Ter Stegen joined Barcelona from Borussia Monchengladbach in the summer of 2014 and went on to become Luis Enrique’s goalkeeper in the Champions League and cup games.

In his first season, he helped the Catalan giants win the European Cup for a fifth time and the Copa del Rey too, but his future has been under constant questioning with rumours of interest from Liverpool. The Reds are reportedly ready to sign the German and have already made a £10 million bid for him this year.

Meanwhile, with Claudio Bravo still the first-choice in Enrique’s side for La Liga matches, Ter Stegen only plays every few weeks which must be tough for a young goalkeeper – so he’s now revealed that he’s unsure of what his future holds in store.

“The truth is I’m not really thinking about the future for the time being,” Ter Stegen said to reporters, via Goal. “I’m focused on tomorrow [against Arsenal], which is really exciting for me,” he said on Tuesday. “It’s a game where I have the opportunity to play again.

“The future is a long way away. But for the time being I’m interested in tomorrow. We want to win, I want to win, that’s it. If I can play football I’m not interested in anything else. Of course there is always pressure but I’m always excited about playing. If you can win games like tomorrow’s, you have to enjoy that.”

While Ter Stegen was talking his future, he clearly felt a little uncomfortable and urged the topic of discussion to be changed onto tomorrow’s game against Arsenal.

“It’s a question I get asked a lot but I’m really only thinking about tomorrow. I want to do my best and the end of the season is far away.

“You never know what the situation will be. It’s football, we’ll see how things go.

“The situation is the one we’ve got. Of course you want to play as much as possible, but for now I play in the Champions League and the Copa del Rey and I want to play to my best ability all the time.”

Ter Stegen has made seven appearances in the Champions League this season for Barcelona and he’s managed to keep three clean sheets in that time.

Meanwhile, multiple reports over recent months have linked Ter Stegen with a move to Liverpool where Jurgen Klopp currently works. Furthermore, if he were to join the Reds, he would certainly be the club’s number one, given how inconsistent Simon Mignolet has been for the club.
