Chelsea captain John Terry revealed that Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho doesn’t speak to players if they miss training with injury.
Earlier this season Mourinho was heavily critical of defenders Luke Shaw and Chris Smalling for not playing through the pain. Terry, who worked under the Portuguese during his two spells at Chelsea, disclosed that the United boss isn’t particularly sympathetic to players receiving treatment.
Terry told BT Sport (via Manchester Evening News): “If you picked up a knock and missed a day’s training, he’d come in and he wouldn’t speak to you. He’d walk straight past you on the treatment table. But you’re sitting there as captain of the football club, you come in kind of looking for the high five from the gaffer.
“You don’t get it, he blanks you and he says to the physio, while you’re there so he knows what he’s doing, ‘How long?’ And the physio would say, ‘Couple of days’ and he’d just walk out.”
United don’t have any major injury concerns at present, with the only absentee being striker James Wilson, who suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury that caused his loan spell at Derby County to be cut short.
Mourinho’s side have struggled for consistency in the Premier League this season – they’re currently sixth in the table – but there’s still a chance of success for United, with the club still in contention in the FA Cup and Europa League, while they’ve reached the EFL Cup final, in which they’ll take on Southampton later this month.
