Thiem shocks Djokovic in London

Dominic Thiem has beaten Novak Djokovic to book his place in the semi-finals of the ATP Finals in London. Djokovic, who is fighting to not only win the tournament, but finish the year as the world number one, looked on course for the victory after taking the opening set. However, Thiem was not done and came fighting back to win the next two sets and book his place in the semis thanks to a 6-7 (5-7) 6-3 7-6 (7-5) win. Austrian Thiem could not hide his delight after the win and says it is a match that will live long in the memory. “This was a very special match, what I practised all my life for, an epic one in front of an amazing crowd and beating a legend of our game,” Thiem said. “It is a match I will probably never forget. I stayed in the match. It is special to come back from a set down, especially in a tie-break. “I stayed offensive all the time even when it didn’t always work out. I’m proud I reached my goal of the semi-finals.” Djokovic and Roger Federer will now battle it out on Thursday for the other spot in the semi-finals.
