Thierry Henry was not pleased with Gabriel Jesus’ finishing during Arsenal’s 2-0 home loss to West Ham on Thursday night.
The Gunners welcomed their London rivals to the Emirates knowing that a win would return them to the top of the table, but what followed was a surprisingly lackluster display. Tomas Soucek scored first, prompting a lengthy VAR review when Arsenal players claimed the ball had gone out in the build-up, before ex-Gunner Konstantinos Mavropanos headed in a Hammers second, According to Mirror.
While Arsenal’s defending was far from stellar, the quality of their attacking play will undoubtedly worry manager Mikel Arteta. The Gunners had 30 shots and five ‘big chances’ but failed to strike the back of the net in 100 minutes.
Starting striker Jesus had an evening to forget and his profligate finishing dominated the post-match discourse, with the Brazil international missing two headers from close range. Henry addressed the matter during his analysis after the game.

“You knew Arsenal were going to get chances,” the Gunners legend told Amazon Prime. “Sometimes it hits the post, there is a leg on the line or it is not finishing well.
“Gabriel Jesus could have scored two or three. He didn’t. But you have to give credit to West Ham. Not conceding at the Emirates is something amazing.”
So far this season, Jesus has failed to impress, scoring only three goals in 14 Premier League outings. This season, he has been guilty of wasteful finishing in a number of Arsenal’s most important games, notably the North London derby.
Arteta was asked how he felt about the number of chances squandered against the Hammers, but he refused to criticize anyone in particular.
