With the forward seeking to leave Paris Saint-Germain, Arsenal icon Thierry Henry has advised Kylian Mbappe that he must learn to put the team first.
Mbappe’s relationship with PSG is believed to have soured just four months after he turned down a transfer to Real Madrid to sign a new contract in the French capital. Indeed, the 23-year-old is reportedly eager to leave in January.
Having been promised that the club would sign a no. 9 who would allow him to play in his preferred position off the left, the France international feels that those promises have not been met.
Meanwhile, Henry encountered a similar situation at Barcelona, albeit with the positions reversed.
He was placed on the left despite playing up front for Arsenal and becoming a Premier League legend in the position.
What Did Henry Say About Mbappe?
The 45-year-old insisted that the manager’s will is always the deciding factor, and Mbappe needs to learn to follow orders.
“We know he doesn’t like it. No one likes to be exposed to what you are not good at,” Henry said to CBS Sport.
“Did they make him feel like the club was the most important thing or did they make him feel like he was more important than the club?
“I will use my own stories, I didn’t like to play high and wide at Barcelona. I hated it. But I had to do it for the team. I didn’t like that after 100 caps and I don’t know how many goals I scored for France, I had to go and play on the left.
“I didn’t hear anyone say ‘oh what a nice gesture to go and play on the left’. But at one point, I remembered there is only one rule, the boss is asking you do something. You do it for the good of the team.

“And your team is winning. If your team is losing, I would have understood the argument. I don’t know what they promised him. But from the outside, it looks like he’s ever heard of no in his life,” Henry added.
Meanwhile, PSG were held to a 1-1 draw against Benfica on Tuesday night. This was just hours after the news of Mbappe’s desire to leave broke.
