Thierry Henry Steps Down As Manager Of The France Under-21 Team After Six Games

Thierry Henry has resigned as the France under-21 team’s manager after just six games in charge. Earlier this month, the former striker for Arsenal also guided Les Bleus to the Olympic final in Paris.

However, they lost the match 5-3 against Spain, reports Express.

After a lackluster showing under Sylvain Ripoll at the European Championship last summer, Henry was named the new manager of France U21s. Nevertheless, after just a year in command, he has made the decision to retire.

The 47-year-old reportedly stated personal reasons for his departure.

“I would like to thank the FFF and President Philippe Diallo for this incredible opportunity,” Henry stated.

“One of my biggest life achievements will always be representing my nation with a silver medal at the Olympics.

“I am incredibly grateful to the federation, the players, the staff and the supporters who allowed me to live a magical experience.”

Henry told Diallo that he was going to resign. There was still one year left on the contract of the former head coach of Monaco and Montreal Impact.

“We obviously regret this decision because Thierry Henry was able to achieve the objectives that had been set for him by winning a silver medal at the Paris Olympics, 40 years after the Olympic medal in Los Angeles,” Diallo said in a statement.

Observing him during the campaign allowed me to witness his extreme professionalism, diligence, and passion for the blue jersey.

We hope he has continued success in his profession.”
