Thomas Tuchel Explains Why He Rejected Man United For England

Thomas Tuchel has given an explanation for his decision to accept the England position rather than take the Manchester United managerial offer.

The FA announced the 51-year-old as the new Three Lions manager this morning. He has signed an 18-month deal and will formally take over on January 1.

Anthony Barry, who was a member of Stephen Kenny’s coaching team during his tenure as Republic of Ireland boss, was announced as Tuchel’s assistant manager.

Over the last six months, the man who guided Chelsea to their 2021 Champions League victory has been frequently linked to a transfer to Old Trafford.

Following United’s eighth-place performance the previous season, Erik Ten Hag, the current manager, has been the subject of much speculation.

With the Red Devils sitting in 14th place with only eight points from seven games, rumors of being fired have only been stronger in recent weeks. reports Sports Joe.

Tuchel discussed the long-standing connection to the United position during this morning’s press conference, outlining why the chance to coach England was too good to pass up.

“The idea and the way John McDermott and Mark Bullingham presented it was very fast and confidential,” he said.

“It was very straightforward, it was a decision for this job and not against anything else.

“They made it clear it’s about football and that got me excited,” he continued.

I always wanted to come back to England, that was my big goal.
