Former Liverpool defender, Glen Johnson has warned Xabi Alonso, Roberto De Zerbi and Ruben Amorim that they have no chance to better the legacy of Jurgen Klopp if one of them replace the German as a Liverpool manager.
Following Klopp’s announcement that he will be leaving Anfield at the end of the season to take some time off from football, the Reds are searching for a new manager.
Although Alonso is the clear favorite to succeed the legendary manager, Bayern Munich may put up a fight if they wish to sign the Spaniard this summer.
With eight games remaining, Alonso’s team, Bayer Leverkusen lead the Bundesliga by ten points thanks to his excellent work with the club this season.
Sporting Lisbon boss, Amorim and Brighton’s De Zerbi are two other managers who have been linked to replace Klopp in the summer. Johnson, a former defender for Chelsea and Liverpool, has a warning for anyone trying to surpass the German.
According to Football365, Johnson told Betfred when he was asked if he would want Alonso to take over as manager of Liverpool.
“I don’t know. I’d like to see him as the manager of Liverpool one day, but timing in football is everything and for whoever comes in next, they’re going to be massively under the spotlight.

“Xabi would be a great manager for the club, but I believe somebody needs to come in after Jürgen Klopp and take the bullet first.
“I know that sounds horrible and brutal to say, but there’s no chance of whoever comes in next being better than Jürgen and that’s a testament to the team he’s built at Liverpool. The best they can do is match him and that’s a hard place to start.
