Liverpool, Newcastle and Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in signing Sporting Lisbon midfielder, Manuel Ugarte during the summer transfer window.
The 22-year-old continues his impressive performances for the Portuguese powerhouse. And his performances have attracted several potential suitors.
Ugarte is reportedly impressing Anfield management. And Jurgen Klopp’s team is in desperate need of midfield reinforcements.
O Jogo, a Portuguese news source, reports that ‘initial contacts’ have already been made to sign the highly regarded Uruguayan player this summer.
According to the report, Newcastle and Tottenham have also entered the race for the midfielder. But Liverpool are attempting to outbid them for his signature.
The Reds, according to O Jogo, may have an advantage because they are one of the historic clubs in England.
If Ugarte were to make the move to Merseyside, he would probably start in the number six position ahead of Fabinho and Jordan Henderson.
He is yet to reach his prime at the age of 22. Therefore he would be a terrific addition over the long term and be a desirable prospect.
This season, Ugarte has made 43 appearances. All of which have been as a defensive midfielder.
He played against Arsenal in the Europa League this season. The Portuguese team eliminated the Gunners on penalties even after he was dismissed in extra time.

The Uruguayan star made the move from Famalicao to Sporting Lisbon in August 2021 for a fee of €6.5 million (£5.7 million).
Where the player ultimately ends up is unknown. But any team would still need to activate the player’s £53 million release clause.
