Three Suspect Arrested After Spanish Soccer Player Yamals Father Was Stabbed

Three people have been arrested, and a fourth is wanted, following a knife attack on the father of 17-year-old Spanish footballer Lamine Yamal in Catalonia, according to local police.

The attack occurred yesterday evening at a car park in the Catalan town of Mataro, some 30 kilometers from Barcelona, in the Rocafonda neighborhood, where Lamine Yamal lives, according to a spokesman for the Catalan regional police force, the Mossos d’Esquadra.

Yamal’s father, Mounir Nasraoui, was stabbed multiple times, according to police, and is being treated at Can Ruti Hospital.

Mr Nasraoui was in serious but stable condition, according to Spanish newspaper La Vanguardia, citing sources close to the sufferer.

Catalan police said the three arrested are being questioned at Mataro police station, while a fourth person is being aggressively sought.

According to the police, investigators must question the victim and witnesses “as soon as possible” to determine the circumstances of the incident.

According to La Vanguardia, the incident occurred after an argument in the street with some males who approached him while he was walking his dog and then returned to abuse him.

Yamal made his Barcelona debut in April 2023 at the age of 15 and quickly rose to prominence last season, becoming an important player for the Catalan giants.

Yamal’s father and grandmother still live in Rocafonda and he tends to celebrate goals by making a ‘304’ gesture with his hands, referring to the postcode of his neighbourhood.
