Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly has reportedly held direct talks with Mason Mount last week over signing a anew contract.
The academy graduate’s long-term future has been a major topic of discussion, with his contract set to expire at the end of next season.
According to widespread reports, formal discussions have been postponed until the summer, with no agreement reached earlier this year.
As well as not wanting to sign contracts that would keep him at Stamford Bridge for an another seven years, Mount is said to desire pay that is nearly on par with the highest paid players at the club.
In contrast, Boehly and other club executives have been unwilling to offer the England international with the financial terms he desires while still requesting a deal of their preferred length.
As a result, talk lingers that a move to another club is becoming more possible, with Liverpool said to be near the top of the list.
Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United, Newcastle United, and Bayern Munich, which is managed by former manager Thomas Tuchel, have all been linked with the 24-year-old.
According to The Athletic, Boehly and Mount have had a direct conversation to see if a future compromise can be reached.

This is thought to be a positive development, with talks continuing despite the fact that Chelsea are highly unlikely to participate in Europe next season.
On the pitch, Chelsea remain focused on finishing the season in the top half of the Premier League table, with 10th-placed Brentford their next opponents on Wednesday evening.
