Toni Kroos Makes Blunt Kylian Mbappe Admission After Retirement

Toni Kroos has claimed that he did not consider Kylian Mbappe’s move to Real Madrid as a reason to postpone his retirement, stressing that it was entirely his decision to end his playing career.

The former Germany international ended his glittering career following the 2023/24 season, finishing with a fifth Champions League victory with Los Blancos (his sixth overall) before representing Germany at Euro 2024, where he was eliminated in the quarter-finals.

Mbappe’s free transfer to the Bernabeu in the summer concluded one of the longest and most arduous sagas in recent memory, adding to an already stacked front line that includes Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo, and Jude Bellingham.

The French skipper is regarded as one of the top players in the world but Kroos has admitted his arrival didn’t enter into his thinking when contemplating his own future.

He told MARCA, “If I was curious about playing alongside Mbappe? No. This decision is not dependent on whether a player comes or goes; it is entirely my discretion.

“I knew Mbappe was coming, and I’m glad he’s going to help the team. It could have been two years ago, but he’s finally arrived. However, Mbappe had no influence on my decision.

Mbappe has had a promising start to life in Madrid, scoring eight goals in 12 games across all competitions. However, Carlo Ancelotti’s squad still has a lot of work to do, as they are currently trailing Clasico rivals Barcelona at the top of La Liga. They were also defeated in their most recent Champions League match, a 1-0 loss against Lille.
