Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed the arrival of Wolfsburg defender, Micky van de Ven in a £43 million deal including add-ons.
After passing his medical test on Monday in north London, the Netherlands Under-21 international signed a six-year contract at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The club announced the deal on their official website: “We are delighted to announce the signing of Micky van de Ven from VfL Wolfsburg, subject to international clearance and work permit.
The defender has signed a contract with the Club that will run until 2029. And will wear the number 37 shirt.”
The 22-year-old moved to Wolfsburg from Volendam two years ago. He quickly rose to prominence among the Germans’ backline thanks to his outstanding defensive performances.
The Dutch player has been a subject of interest from Liverpool this summer. But Tottenham manager, Ange Postecoglou was quick to react and the club subsequently won the race to sign him.
Finding a new center-back was a top priority for Spurs during the transfer window. This is as a result of their defensive troubles last season, during which they conceded 63 goals in the Premier League.

Two days before the announcement of the Dutchman’s acquisition, Tottenham announced the signing of highly-rated center-back Ashley Phillips.
Ahead of the 2023–24 season, Van de Ven will join the likes of Phillips, Guglielmo Vicario, Manor Solomon, Dejan Kulusevski, and James Maddison at Tottenham on permanent contracts. Rosario Central forward, Alejo Veliz is also expected to join.
