Tottenham Hotspur 5-0 Red Star Belgrade

Tottenham picked up their first Champions League win of the season with a 5-0 Group B thrashing of Red Star Belgrade at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Spurs boasted four changes from the side that had to snatch a controversial late equaliser in the 1-1 Premier League draw against Watford at the weekend as Ben Davies, Erik Lamela, Tanguy Ndombele and Heung-Min Son replaced Toby Alderweireld, Harry Winks, Danny Rose and Lucas Moura.
Tottenham started positively and Son went close in the fifth minute when he exchanged passes with Harry Kane and fired an effort down the throat of Milan Borjan.
However, their strong opening was rewarded on nine minutes when Kane lost Milos Degenek to meet a Lamela corner at the front post and he guided his header into the corner of the net.
Kane forced Borjan into a save at his near post, before Son put them two-up after 16 minutes.
Lamela did well down the right and his cross to the back post was met by the South Korean who smashed his effort into the top of the net.
Red Star tried to muster a response but it was Spurs who went close to a third on 20 minutes when a flowing move ended with Davies’ first-time low ball being turned goalwards by Lamela but Borjan diverted it round the post.
The visitors did try and force their way back into the contest as the first half progressed, but Spurs grabbed a killer third just before the interval.
Ndombele managed to gain possession from Marko Marin and the Frenchman looked up to pick out Son in the area and he slotted in his second past Borjan from six yards.
Spurs continued to pose a threat after the break and they almost went four-up on 55 minutes when Son collected a pass from Kane and then picked out the run of Lamela, but his low effort dropped inches wide.
The Argentinian was not to be denied as he scored Spurs’ fourth just two minutes later when he collected a pass from Serge Aurier and turned sharply before beating Borjan from 12 yards.
Lamela, Son and Kane all went close, before the latter grabbed his second of the night on 72 minutes when guiding his effort into the corner after a perfectly weighted pass from Ndombele.
Kane went close to grabbing his hat-trick in the closing stages but Spurs secured a vital win which moves them up to second in the group on four points.
