According to France 24, The former Australia manager said that his mocking of the idea that Tottenham supporters would want their team to fail in order to deny North London rivals Arsenal the Premier League title was incorrect.
With their win, City moved two points clear of the Gunners atop the standings ahead of Sunday’s season-ending game.
Even if the mood was low on Tuesday, Spurs made Pep Guardiola’s team work hard and would have easily won if Stefan Ortega hadn’t produced a late save from Son Heung-min.
“It was probably the worst football manager experience I’ve ever had in a game,” Postecoglou stated at Friday’s pre-game press conference.
“As soon as I realized I had misjudged the mood and emotions of the attendees, I began to feel quite anxious. What would happen if we played to the best of our abilities but Man City, the greatest club in the world, who were routing teams rather easy in the lead-up, defeated us 5-0?
“I got cold sweats thinking about people questioning my integrity and the people I work with.”
During the game, a frustrated Postecoglou got into an altercation with a fan behind the Tottenham bench. He later said that the foundations he had laid in his debut season were “fragile”.
Spurs only need to avoid losing on Sunday away to Sheffield United, who have been demoted, in order to finish in fifth place and qualify for the Europa League.
Tottenham Manager Disappointed With Fans
Postecoglou, though, thinks there is still a long way to go before a team that hasn’t taken home a trophy since 2008 can truly adopt a winning mindset.
“Supporters are there to back their club and do their bit,” he stated. They have undoubtedly contributed to our cause this year. We’ve won an incredible number of games at the stadium in the latter stages, and the fans have been a major factor in that success.

“I’m not understanding the final game. The day before, I made fun of the entire event while sitting here. To be honest, I didn’t think that was true. But if that’s how people feel? I’m not a fan of the Spurs. Indeed, they are. I’m not the custodian; they are.
“All I can do is share my thoughts on what I think you should have in order to succeed. In my opinion, it is impossible to succeed if your goals are contingent on the competition. You have to have a constant desire to succeed.
“It wasn’t limited to Spurs fans. Everyone I spoke with indicated they were aware of their feelings. Well, I’m not sure I get it. Nothing is worse, in my opinion, than not giving it your all to win each and every time you compete.”
