After a stellar debut season at Tottenham, Micky van de Ven became the fastest player in Premier League history.
The summer transfer of the center defender, whose contract was potentially worth £43 million, from Wolfsburg has been a significant addition.
During his rookie season, according to Talk Sport, Van van Ven made 29 appearances in all competitions, and he was a major factor in their fifth-place Premier League result.
The Spurs defender even went one better, finishing the 2023–2024 season as the fastest player in the Premier League.
The 23-year-old, according to Squawka, had a maximum speed of 37.38 km/h during their 3-2 home loss to Brentford in January.
Since the data was initially gathered in the 2020–21 season, this is also the quickest speed ever registered by a Premier League player.
Other Premier League Record Breakers
Van de Ven was thus the fastest defender all season, with Robert Sanchez of Chelsea topping the goalkeeper rankings with 35.11 km/h.
Jakub Moder of Brighton was the fastest midfield player with a pace of 36.84 km/h, while Luton’s Chiedozie Ogbene led the forward pack with 36.93 km/h.
Although Anthony Elanga of Nottingham Forest is in second place and only 0.02 km/h faster than Ogbene, Van de Ven is the winner overall.

Under Ange Postecoglou, he has emerged as one of Spurs’ brightest talents and has recovered admirably from a November hamstring injury.
The north London team’s center-back made 27 Premier League starts, recording six clean sheets while adding three goals to his tally.
On the last day, Van de Ven played a key role in their 3-0 victory over Sheffield United, which guaranteed them a spot in the Europa League.
Spurs came dangerously close to securing a return to the Champions League as they finished fourth, two points ahead of Aston Villa.
Even though their penultimate game ended in a 2-0 home loss to Manchester City, Postecoglou’s team has improved this season, especially with Van van Ven in the defense.
