You have to feel bad for any Tottenham supporter who had the misfortune of traveling great distances to watch their club at St. James’ Park only to witness them thoroughly destroyed by a rampant Newcastle team in the first 20 minutes.
Despite a valiant performance later, it was a major disgrace for everyone associated with the north London team, and it was inevitable that Cristian Stellini would be dismissed as a result.
It wasn’t the best lead-up to the campaign’s final few games, beginning on Thursday with Manchester United.
The nature of the defeat must have impacted the Tottenham players hard, as every point is now essential in their battle for a Champions League position.
In a statement issued on Monday, they even made this admission and included some encouraging information for the courageous travelers who had taken the time to venture to the north-east.

As the players themselves identified, words aren’t enough, but the gesture should still be appreciated.
The one issue they may find is that what is essentially a PR exercise in getting supporters back on side, could blow up in their faces if they put in another under par showing against the Red Devils.
