Tottenham Hotspur midfielder, James Maddison has reportedly been ruled out of the England squad for their 2024 European Championship qualifiers.
The 26-year-old had to leave the game during the first half of Spurs’ 4-1 Premier League loss to Chelsea on Monday due to an ankle injury. His club have now stated that he will not be able to play in England’s Euro 2024 qualifiers against North Macedonia on November 20 and Malta at home on November 17.
The club said in a statement published on their official website: We can confirm that James Maddison has been withdrawn from the England squad due to an ankle injury.
The midfielder will not feature in the Three Lions’ UEFA EURO 2024 qualifiers against Malta and North Macedonia, and will remain at Hotspur Way for rehabilitation with the Club’s medical staff.
Maddison was part of the initial 25-man list that England manager Gareth Southgate announced on Thursday.
With a 2-1 victory over Italy at Wembley last month in their last qualifier, the Three Lions guaranteed their spot at the Euros in Germany this summer.
He now becomes a member of Tottenham extensive injured list, which also includes Manor Solomon, Ben Davies, Ivan Perisic, Richarlison, and Micky van de Ven.
