Tottenham Suspend Midfielder Bissouma After Inhaling Laughing Gas

The 27-year-old Bissouma has expressed regret for what he called a “severe lack of judgement”.

Since 2023, it has been illegal to possess nitrous oxide, often known as laughing gas, for recreational purposes in the United Kingdom. Repeat offenders risk a two-year jail term.

At the pre-game news conference on Thursday, Postecoglou stated, “We’ve suspended him for Monday’s game.”

“The door is open for him, and maybe we can assist him in seeing that the choices he makes affect more people than just himself.

“Hopefully it allows him to make better decisions moving forward.”

After spending £30 million to join Spurs from Brighton in 2022, Bissouma participated for 45 minutes in the team’s friendly loss to Bayern Munich on Saturday afternoon.

Later that day, he shared a video of himself inhaling from a balloon on social media, reports France 24.

“I’d want to offer my apology for these videos. This demonstrated a serious lack of discernment,” Bissouma said in a statement.

“I understand how serious this is and the health risks involved, and I also take my responsibility as a footballer and role model very seriously.”

Dominic Solanke is expected to make his Premier League debut this weekend, which is further good news for Postecoglou.

After a spectacular start to the Australian’s rule, Tottenham slumped in Postecoglou’s first season, finishing fifth.
