Transfer news analyst Fabrizio Romano has offered some insight into how Manchester City could try to replace him in light of Julian Alvarez’s impending transfer to Atletico Madrid.
As an alternative to Alvarez, who had served as Erling Haaland’s backup at the Etihad Stadium, Romano proposed that Man City try to find a new style of player to replace him, reports Caught Offside.
Although it makes sense for the Argentina international to leave City given his struggles to get consistent playing time, Romano has stated that internal discussions will take place to determine what kind of attacking player could be brought in to take over that role.
“Here we go for Julian Alvarez to go from Manchester City to Atletico Madrid is the first of a few big deals that have developed in a crazy domino effect throughout Europe.”
“With a €75 million guaranteed fee and €20 million in add-ons, it’s a record sale for Man City,” said Romano.

Alvarez is expected to sign a five-year deal, so it will shortly be finished. Diego Simeone, who is quite eager to see things move through, has also already spoken with Alvarez.
“Man City will undoubtedly now consider Alvarez’s replacement. Although it may be a striker, I wouldn’t be shocked if they ended up thinking about wingers as well, possibly using a false nine in the event that Erling Haaland is unavailable.
We will have to wait and see what comes out of the internal debates to determine the next course of action.
