In-form Wolves winger Adama Traore says he is ready to commit his international future to Spain. After several seasons of flattering to deceive in the Premier League, it appears Traore is finally ready to fulfil his potential at Wolves after establishing himself as a regular in Nuno Espirito Santo’s starting line-up.
The 23-year-old has scored two goals and contributed eight assists across all competitions so far this season, including having a hand in both goals as Wolves claimed a 2-1 victory over Aston Villa last weekend.
Prior to that game, Traore had earned a first senior call-up with Spain, but he picked up a hamstring injury during Sunday’s match which meant he quickly had to pull out of the squad.
Traore’s withdrawal led to suggestions in certain quarters that the former Barcelona star was still considering which country he wanted to represent at international level, with talk he could opt to play for Mali – the country of his parents’ birth.
However, the former Middlesbrough and Aston Villa player has now moved to clarify his international future by confirming he intends to represent Spain and he hopes to earn a call-up to Robert Moreno’s team again in the future. “I’m happy because the country where I was born, they trust me, and they call me to be there,” Traore was quoted as saying by the Birmingham Mail. “But I’m focused on working every day to be my best.”
Traore currently faces a race against time to prove his fitness for Wolves’ first match after the international break, which will be a trip to the Vitality Stadium to take on Bournemouth on November 23.
The winger’s next chance to represent Spain will not come until early next year, while a strong end to the season could see him earn a place in La Roja’s squad for this summer’s European Championships.
