Harry Higgs, Scottie Scheffler and Brendon Todd share a one-shot lead on -11 at the halfway stage of the Bermuda Championship. With most of the big boys playing in the WGC-HSBC Champions in Shanghai, the way is open for some relatively unknown stars to shine in the PGA Tour’s alternate event. That is just what is happening as the trio are looking down on the rest of the field, with 36 holes to go at Port Royal Golf Course. Higgs carded a 65 and Scheffler backed up his opening 62 with a 69, but it was Todd who finished with the momentum, birdieing his last four holes for a round of 63. Todd, 34, the winner of the 2014 Byron Nelson Championship, is not the longest hitter on the PGA Tour and felt the course layout helped level the playing field for him. “The good thing about that for me is I’m hitting the same clubs into the greens as everybody else, and for some reason that tends to work out well in my favour,” he said. “So the course is good for me, for my game, and I’ve been swinging well.” Boo Weekley, Aaron Wise and Wes Roach share fourth place just one shot back, while Scotland’s Russell Knox, one of only a handful of Europeans in the line-up this week, has sole possession of seventh spot on nine-under.
