In response to their military invasion of Ukraine, UEFA has announced a ban on Russia from Euro 2024 qualifying. Due to the ongoing hostilities in Ukraine, all Russian teams are currently suspended from playing football.
The men’s squad from Russia have been banned from participating in the 2022 World Cup, forfeiting their playoff spot for qualification. Similar restrictions applied to the women’s team in Euro 2022, which was replaced in the actual competition by Portugal.
The Court of Arbitration for Sport upheld the suspension despite an appeal by the Russian football federation in July. The invasion has received universal condemnation in the world of football.

The Barcelona star wore a similar armband last season for Bayern Munich in a Bundesliga clash with Eintracht Frankfurt in a show of support for Ukraine following the start of Russia’s military invasion.
UEFA has now confirmed there will be no place for Russia in the upcoming tournament.
The UEFA statement read: “All Russian teams are currently suspended following the decision of the UEFA Executive Committee of 28 February 2022 which has further been confirmed by the Court of Arbitration for Sport on 15 July 2022.
