United target Havertz hints at summer move

Manchester United target Kai Havertz has suggested he could leave Bayer Leverkusen at the end of the campaign. Havertz has emerged as one of the brightest young talents on the continent over the past few seasons with Bayer.
The 20-year-old graduated from their academy to make his first-team debut in October 2016, ending that season with 24 Bundesliga appearances under his belt.
But he still looked raw as he turned out 30 times in 2017-18, scoring just three times, and it wasn’t until the following term that clubs across Europe started to take notice.
He hit 17 goals in 34 outings last season as he became the youngest player to make 50 Bundesliga appearances, form that saw Havertz called into Joachim Low’s Germany squad for the first time.
Low is clearly a big admirer of his ability, naming him in each of his following squads, and he already boasts seven caps.
Reports suggest Bayer will face a serious fight to retain his services long term, with the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool and Bayern Munich all keeping tabs on his development.
However, Havertz, who was linked with an exit last summer, doesn’t appear to be ready to move on from his boyhood club just yet.
The Aachen-born starlet insists he is happy to continue his development with Die Werkself but may consider options elsewhere at the end of the campaign.
Havertz told Marca: “I think I’ve picked up enough international experience at Leverkusen. “I know the rhythm of these international matches and I’m confident that I can go abroad at any moment and play at clubs outside of Germany. “For the moment, I want to have a good season. Afterwards, we’ll see.”
The midfielder has scored twice and assisted once in nine Bundesliga appearances this season even with the club struggling to find consistency.
United are understood to have been closely monitoring the German for the past couple of seasons but his latest comments suggest they will need to be patient.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s recent transfer business has centred around youth as he looks to assemble a squad capable of challenging for honours over the next few years.
The opportunity to head to Old Trafford, albeit at a difficult time for the club, would likely be too tempting for Bayer ace to turn down if they do come knocking in the summer.
