Olympic sprinting legend Usain Bolt believes that without Jose Mourinho, Manchester United would not have been able to sign Paul Pogba.
Pogba signed on the dotted line for a five-year deal at United earlier this week and, in turn, became the most expensive player in the history of football, costing the Red Devils an incredible £89 million.
It edged out the former world record held by Real Madrid and Gareth Bale at £86m and Mourinho now has a midfielder capable of grabbing hold of a game and driving United up the Premier League table.
The Frenchman has emerged as one of the biggest talents in Europe over the past four years and Bolt thinks that if it wasn’t for Mourinho being at Old Trafford, the Red Devils would have failed in their pursuit of Pogba.
“I’ve always said we needed midfielders which would be creative and I think he’s one of them,” Bolt said to reporters.
“I’m happy about that move and I give thanks to Mourinho because I think if it wasn’t for Mourinho, he wouldn’t have come.”
Mourinho has made huge additions to the United first-team this summer with just four key signings.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic has arrived on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain and had an immediate impact after scoring the winning goal in the Community Shield at the weekend.
Eric Bailly was signed from Villarreal to tighten up their defence, and the young star is already shining, while Mourinho also added Henrikh Mkhitaryan from Borussia Dortmund to bring some creativity into their attack.
With Pogba now also in the squad, the Red Devils are going to be right in the fight for the league title.
