USMNT Win Second Consecutive CONCACAF Nations League Title

The United States defeated Canada 2-0 on Sunday night to win the CONCACAF Nations League for the second consecutive year.

Chris Richards and Folarin Balogun each scored their first goals for their respective countries, both off assists from Gio Reyna.

Richards scored on corner kick in the 12th minute, and in the 34th, Balogun increased the advantage. Balogun made his international debut in Thursday’s 3-0 victory against Mexico.

Interim coach B.J. Callaghan, who took over on May 30 guided the Americans once more, and will also manage the squad at the CONCACAF Gold Cup starting next weekend.

Gregg Berhalter will not be on the sidelines until the September exhibition games despite being reinstated as coach on Friday, 1/2 months after his contract was let to expire.

The United States kept their 22-game unbeaten streak over Canada, which dates back to 1957, and Canada remains without a title since the 2000 Gold Cup.

Reyna sparked both goals, then left at halftime with a calf injury and was replaced by Luca de a Torre.

Reyna’s lack of hustle in training at the World Cup and his family’s angry response created the controversy that let to Berhalter’s January departure.
