Captain of Liverpool Virgil van Dijk hinted that he would leave the team following a “emotional” season finale.
Prior to Arne Slot’s debut season in command, the 33-year-old is only signed for one more year at Merseyside. Arne Slot succeeded Jurgen Klopp as the Anfield head coach.
Following the Netherlands’ defeat by England in the Euro 2024, Van Dijk acknowledged there are some questions over his future with the team and the nation.
After the game, he said, “I haven’t the slightest idea right now,” in response to a question from reporters.

“This summer, I’ll give it a lot of thought to what I want from a club standpoint and as an international player.
After that, we’ll try again, but first we need to get well from this.
“You know it’s over at the end of a season like this, where all kinds of things have happened, so it gets emotional.”
Van Dijk stated earlier this year that he hopes to be “part of” Liverpool’s “big transition” over the first few years after Klopp.
