Real Madrid’s hopes of signing Liverpool defender, Virgil van Dijk is reportedly still alive as Los Blancos are still keen on signing him on a free transfer.
Madrid’s center-back situation has been a nightmare. Due to an ACL injury, David Alaba missed the first half of the season. This coincided with Eder Militao’s recurrence of the same injury, which was his second in as many seasons.
Nacho, the former captain of the team, departed for Saudi Arabia at the end of the previous season. The team also failed to lure anyone else and lost out on Leny Yoro to Manchester United.
Raul Asencio’s promotion to the first team and Aurelien Tchouameni’s filling in have allowed Madrid to survive in the interim, but it’s not a long-term solution, and there is still a dearth of cover.

However, if he is available, Van Dijk might be a good fit for Madrid in the short-term.
The Reds captain was previously linked to Real Madrid in recent months and is scheduled to become a free agent at the end of the current campaign.
For the European champions, 90min points out that it is a possibility that is “still alive” and hasn’t been ruled out yet.
The Dutchman is thought to be the most likely of the three to remain at Anfield because his future hasn’t been discussed in the same manner as that of Mohamed Salah or Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is a much firmer target for Madrid.
However, there haven’t been many updates regarding a possible new contract.
