Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal lost his cool on Sunday evening, after a journalist suggested that he could be replaced in the coming months by the hierarchy at the club.
The 64-year-old’s future has been under the spotlight all season and in recent weeks, there has been talk that this summer will see the end of Van Gaal’s two years at the club.
To make matters worse, former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho confirmed on the weekend that he was keen on returning to Premier League management very soon in an interview with GQ.
The Portuguese tactician is seen as the ideal replacement for Van Gaal, but the Dutch coach was in no mood for talking rumours on Sunday.
After seeing his side concede late on away at Mourinho’s former side – Diego Costa cancelled out Jesse Lingard’s opener – a journalist at the post-match press conference asked Van Gaal if he felt recent good performances would be enough to keep him at the club ‘while they are trying to replace’ him.
“You have spoken with Ed Woodward?” Van Gaal replied.
“Why do the club have to deny it? You are creating stories. You haven’t spoken with Ed Woodward or the Glazers and you are inventing the story. Then I have to answer that question.
“I don’t answer this question and I shall repeat myself every week.
“I have to say that you are getting the sack tomorrow. What is your name? Then I can announce the name also.
“Look at your wife – maybe you have children, or a nephew or something like that.”
Manchester United put in an extremely good performance at Stamford Bridge on Sunday and were perhaps rather unfortunate to concede late on.
Lingard’s fantastic opener seemed set to give them a deserved three points, but it was Chelsea who seized the initiative late on and could have actually won the game had it not been for David De Gea.
